The Palio

September for Asti is a magical month, a month that goes beyond historical evocation, good cooking and excellent wine. September for Asti is life. And the testimony that surrounds this is just one: the Palio, the most awaited Sunday of the year, that this year is September 17th. It is a horses’ competition that compares, for centuries, the various Rioni of Asti, but is not only a speed test. It is a historical re-enactment of the customs and uses of the time, in which are included all the sacrifice and sweat of that Rione and its bourgeoisie who, at the end of the competition, will enter in Piazza Alfieri to exult, to cry and to be proud of the city where they live and of the Rione the live for.
